How much television do you guys let your kids watch? Tucker would watch TV all day if I let him. We don’t have cable so the choices are limited and many times there is noting on for him. I am trying to get a good balance and not just fall back on the TV when its convenient, I feel like I have been doing that lately, especially when he was sick and nothing would make him happy.
Please be honest.

bear watches tv in the morning. and SOMETIMES after nap or before bed but rarely. every morning tho for sure. he wakes up super early so i turn it on and he watches and then plays then goes back to watching…this goes on for a good hour or 2. depends.
I actually probably let the kids watch more tv than I intend to, but I am very picky about WHAT they watch. I stick to Playhouse Disney, Noggin or Sprout. No SpongeBob…ever! I hate the show. Typically I’ll do movies too, but only ones I know are ok.
One thing I like to do is tivo shows that I know are ok. That way I can turn them on and when they are done, they are done and the kids get up to do something else. I know they aren’t watching one after another, all day long.
Don’t get me wrong, I also sometimes let the tv on all day, and Gavin will catch the occassional Hanna Montana, but I think that’s ok too. I try not to be too hard on myself.
so….in the morning they will watch probably about a half-hour show, and a half-hour or so at night before bed. During the day will range from a half hour (before nap) and sometimes a 1.5-hour movie if schedules allow. And then we might watch Wipeout as a family in the evening, but they don’t sit there and stare at it….just laugh occasionally while playing. Wow…that should probably be a mom confession! (No guilt, right??)
I agree WE HATE SPONGE BOB too!!!! When Pix was his age we stuck to PBS! The no commercial thing is nice! It was the only way I could get things done and I am okay with it! I spend a lot of hours in the week doing stuff to stimulate her growing brain and I know you do to so I say let him watch! PBS is so educational too! He is not watching crap! Elmo is teaching him to share and his ABC’s and colors and all kinds of neat things that you may not realize he is picking up on! ELMO ROCKS!!!
Seriously, I want to cry right now because I feel so much better. Tuck watches Sesame Street in the morning and occasionally in the afternoon too during lunch. I was starting to feel like he was going to get ADHD or something when in reality he is probably just going to learn his ABCs faster. And if I am going to really be honest….Sid The Science Kid is watched as well many days. I love you.
okay, i’m going to confess that my kids and my dh love spongebob and watch it a few times a week. generally, tv is limited to about an hour a day, but we do occasionally have family movie night together. when they were younger they watched more, but now they can read, so that’s a huge help.
It seems like I have nothing to worry about with TV time. Looks like all our families have little guilty pleasures. I can’t wait til Tucker is old enough and we can have movie nights or go to the movies together. Thanks hillaryh!
